OK, The Official Jim Jacobi Site http://incolor.inebraska.com/kahunas/ and a couple other sources, lay it out this way. In the early 70s Jacobi was in a band with drummer Dave Robel called the Jakimbi Band. Robel then jump ship to join up with a Rock-A-Billie guy named Charlie Burton. I'm guessing that the bands name was Charlie Burton and Rock Therapy. While recording a single with Rock Therapy, Robel sold a TEAC four channel machine to Jacobi. Who in turn recorded the first Crap Detectors LP - 'Victims of the Media' which along with the early singles is prized by many a portentous record collector.
The Crap Detectors became a band and not just a solo recording project in 1980 in Lincoln. The band or at least Jacobi moved to Texas in 1985 were CD operated until 1989. CD then moved on to Seattle in 1989 and was there until 1998 when Jacobi moved back to Lincoln to form the Joe Jakimbi Band. In total there was 10 to 12 different line ups during that 22 year period and had 14 releases.
On a side note The Crap Detectors are listed on the Dead Kennedys list of Influences. Also it is claimed that Jello labels name Alternative Tentacles was based on the cover art on the 'Victims of the Media' LP.
