"The Circle A Ranch was an acreage in an unincorporated area of Pleasant Hill(Iowa) that was owned by a friend of Darrin Stout's, I believe. In '85, we put on a few great shows out there with all the local bands- COTC, Pent-Up, Welfare Skate- plus some touring bands: Rhythm Pigs, Adrenalin OD, and Power of the Spoken Word. At some shows we'd have well over 100 people out there. At other shows, there'd be 20, including the band members. Power of the Spoken Word were kind of a satanic-biker-metal-punk band from Lincoln. Well, one night, they were playing a show out there and the cops came out, allegedly called by a neighbor complaining of the execssive noise. This was bullshit, of course, as it was at least a mile to the next house. They really just came out there because they didn't like punk kids hanging out in such large numbers. They shut the show down and told everyone to leave. The kids started to make a stink, especially the singer of POTS. One thing lead to another, and the next thing you knew, cops were arresting people and swinging their billy clubs trying to get everyone to disperse. POTS' singer got a pretty vicious beatdown and was taken to jail. That was the end of the Circle A. "
